6 Days | Grand Northern Safari

From $1,600 USD* | 6 Days | Wildlife
Three iconic parks in six days, with two full days inside the Serengeti to see it all without the rush.

Overview

This is the trip for travelers who want to see it all and feel none of the rush. Over six days you will move through four of northern Tanzania's most iconic ecosystems, each one earning its own full day rather than a drive-through glimpse. Tarangire is elephant country, with herds moving through ancient baobab woodland along a river that never runs dry.

The Serengeti is the main event, with two full days inside the park to chase the plains game, the predators, and whatever the migration is doing when you arrive. Ngorongoro Crater closes the trip with one of Africa's densest concentrations of wildlife, packed into a collapsed volcanic caldera and framed by highland views.

This itinerary moves at a real pace, five game drives across six days, with two of those days spent entirely inside the Serengeti so you are never rushing from park to park. It is the route for travelers who want the complete northern circuit experience.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

The moment you step off your flight at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your Zuri guide is waiting with a warm Karibu and a cold towel. From there, it is a short drive to your first lodge in Arusha, where the rest of the day is yours.

Settle in, breathe in the mountain air, and let the anticipation build. Tomorrow, the real adventure begins.

Day 2

Tarangire National Park

An early start from Arusha takes you southwest into Tarangire, where the landscape shifts to golden savanna dotted with massive baobab trees. This park is known for its elephant herds, some of the largest in Tanzania, and you will likely see them within the first hour.

Your guide follows the Tarangire River, where buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, and giraffe gather at the water's edge. Watch for lions resting in the shade and leopards tucked into tree branches. After a full day of game driving, you continue on toward Karatu for the night.

Day 3

Serengeti National Park

Today you leave Karatu behind and head into the Serengeti, Tanzania's most famous park and one of the last great wildlife migrations on earth. The drive in follows the rim of the Ngorongoro Highlands before descending onto the endless plains that give the Serengeti its name, from the Maasai word for “endless”.

You will game drive as you enter, watching for lion, cheetah, and the vast herds of plains game that call this ecosystem home. Tonight you sleep inside the park itself, in the heart of the action.

Day 4

Serengeti National Park

A full day dedicated entirely to the Serengeti, with no driving in or out. Your guide sets out early to follow the movement of predators and migration herds through the Seronera area, the park's central hub and one of the most reliable spots for big cat sightings year-round.

Depending on where the wildlife is concentrated, your guide may take you to a different section of the Serengeti for the day's game drive rather than staying centrally, so every hour is spent where the action is.

Same accommodation as Day 3.
Day 5

Serengeti to Ngorongoro

Your final morning in the Serengeti starts with one more game drive, making the most of the light before you begin the journey out. From there, your guide heads oward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, climbing back up out of the plains and into the highlands.

You arrive at your lodge on the crater rim in the afternoon, with sweeping views down into the caldera that awaits you tomorrow.

Day 6

Ngorongoro Crater & Departure

You descend 600 meters into the floor of Ngorongoro Crater, a collapsed volcanic caldera and one of Africa's seven natural wonders. The crater is only 20 kilometers across, but it holds one of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the continent.

Lions, buffalo, zebra, hippos, and flamingos all share this enclosed world, and it is one of the few places in Tanzania where you have a real chance of spotting the endangered black rhino. After a full morning in the crater, you climb back out and begin the drive back to Arusha, arriving in time for your onward flight or your next destination.
